The developers of Microsoft Edge regularly issue a water level report on what the most desired features are in the further development of the browser and whether they plan to implement them or not. In the latest feedback update, tidy context menus and a new download bar are promised.
The user request for an alternative download interface has been on the list for over a year. Most of the feedback would like a download bar at the bottom of the window, like the “old” Edge had before switching to Chromium. In the current developer update the status of the corresponding entry now changes from “under review” to “alternative planned”. On the one hand, this is a rejection of the return of the old bar, but at the same time the developers write that they will test various options for better visualizing active downloads.
There has recently been criticism of Microsoft Edge’s ever-expanding menus. Both the context menus and the… menu at the top right continue to swell as Microsoft adds new features (some of which are debatable whether they make sense or not). Users would like these menus to be cleaned up or at least be able to customize them and, for example, hide entries that they think are superfluous. The developers now also want to tackle this topic and implement their first ideas soon.
