The AirPods Max originally came in multiple colors, including space gray, silver, green, pink, and sky blue. Now, a new report indicates that we can expect an AirPods Max color update later this year along with the new AirPods Pro version. See below for details.

AirPods Max and AirPods Pro 2 color update

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter today, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has two updates planned for AirPods this year. First, as we have previously reported, a new version of AirPods Pro is coming soon.

So far, reports have indicated that the AirPods Pro 2 are expected to feature a new design and will also support lossless playback for the first time. There are also rumors of new “health management” and fitness tracking features, but we’re still waiting for more details to know exactly what health and fitness features Apple may be planning.

In the latest edition of Power On, Gourmet is doubling down on the AirPods Pro 2, which will arrive this fall. He notes that it’s been nearly three years since the original AirPods Pro launched, “so batteries are already probably causing problems for some early adopters.” As an early AirPods Pro user, I can attest to this.

Also in Sunday’s newsletter, Gurman reveals that along with the AirPods Pro 2, Apple is planning new colors for the AirPods Max. Although Gurman notes that he “hopes” to see price cuts, there are currently no signs that Apple is planning any price cuts.

Look forward to the new AirPods Pro in the fall. The current model has been on the market since the fall of 2019, so for some early adopters, the batteries are probably already causing problems. Also look out for the AirPods Max update with new colors (and hopefully a price cut – $550 is absurd for these headphones).

Ideally, Apple will do more than just update the color options when it updates AirPods Max this fall. Over-ear headphones do not support lossless playback over both wireless and wired networks. It will be an even more egregious omission if the AirPods Pro 2 introduces support for lossless playback later this year.
