The cost of foreign equipment and electronics on the shelves of Russian stores can grow significantly in the next few months. This is reported by the Russian Forbes with reference to market representatives and analysts.
Forbes employees conducted a survey among employees and heads of analytical agencies. They tried to assess the prospects for Russian retail and the extent to which prices for household appliances and electronics rose after the introduction of the so-called parallel imports. Recall that parallel import is the import of goods into the country without the permission and certification of its manufacturer or copyright holder.
Telecom Daily CEO Denis Kuskov believes that parallel imports will definitely cause an increase in prices for goods. Compared to prices in March and early April, the value will still fall, assuming that the exchange rate does not rise in the next few months. However, when compared with the end of 2021, the price tags will not please – growth is expected by 15-20%, or even more.
General Director of Infoline-Analytics Mikhail Burmistrov is more pessimistic. He believes that prices will rise by 20-40%, and for certain categories of goods – even twice. He noted that parallel imports will most likely occur through Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, while Apple, Samsung and Xbox equipment will enter the Russian Federation through China. It is curious that until February 2022, everything was the other way around: goods were first delivered to the Russian Federation, and only then they were sent to the countries of the Middle East.
Another anonymous Forbes interlocutor summed up that the additional markup for parallel imports will be from 5 to 30% – this is exactly the figure that can be added to the current price right now in order to understand the scale of the upcoming price increase. In addition, experts have serious doubts that Russia will maintain the same volume of imports – because of the sanctions, it will be dangerous to cooperate with it in major transactions.
