According to Kotaku, the next “Mafia” offshoot is in development. It’s supposed to be a prequel.
The Video Game Magazine kotaku found out about a new “Mafia” part. This project is said to be in a very early stage of development, but the first details are already available. So you can expect a prequel that is codenamed Nero. In addition, Hangar 13 is said to use Unreal Engine 5 from Epic Games. Accordingly, the illusion engine of “Mafia III” would have had its day.
Studio manager resigns
This news came to light after Haden Blackman announced his retirement. This was the head of the studio at Hangar 13. In an e-mail it was said that he would like to pursue a new project in the future. Incidentally, COO Matthew Urban has also left the “Mafia” developer. Where exactly the two are going is not known.
Nick Baynes is responsible for the management of the American studio with immediate effect. Previously, he was Managing Director of the Brighton studio, which has served as an additional location since 2018. He is now also in charge of the development of the presumed “Mafia” prequel.
As recently as June 2020, Blackman made it clear that she would eventually like to join the “Mafia” franchise want to return. Now it is clear: This return will take place without the studio founder.
