Visitors to various Apple Stores in Paris, Berlin and London report receiving AirDrop messages suggesting they buy a used iPhone instead of a new one.
Such a creative advertising campaign was launched by the European portal for the sale of refurbished electronics Back Market, having previously agreed with Apple. All messages come via AirDrop to iPhone display cases in the Apple Store.
Messages contain the following text:
“Quicker! The security service is not looking… It’s time to buy a refurbished cheaper and more environmentally friendly model. Did you know that this iPhone is available in white, black, blue and green?”.
Of course, the attached link translates to the Back Market website, where the marketplace offers a wide selection of refurbished devices, noting that “a refurbished phone reduces the collective carbon footprint by 176 pounds.” The site’s experts have calculated that manufacturing a new smartphone releases about 191 pounds of CO2, while refurbishment only emits 15 pounds.
