The new Art of Strategy event adds some real-time strategy elements to the action-packed battles of World of Tanks. RTS style, you get to command multiple tanks at once and lead them into battle against seven enemy commanders.
Actually, World of Tanks is mainly known for a good portion of action in the battles. Dash across the map with your own tank and destroy the enemy metal colossuses with targeted attacks. Of course, it is also about strategy, but WoT is miles away from a strategy game. That could change with the new event game mode Art of Strategy. Because this is more reminiscent of an RTS than an action shooter.
In two different formats you compete against each other in either one-on-one or one-on-seven. Now, of course, the question arises of how to control seven tanks simultaneously as a single commander – and this is where the RTS elements come into play.
Command instead of driving
Because a 1vs1 or as a solo commander in 1vs7 you do not control the tanks directly yourself, but command them similar to an RTS. You determine the attack routes and observe the events from a bird’s eye view. In addition, you have various defensive positions available that can be used strategically. Once the strategy has been planned and the battle is underway, the commander can take over individual tanks at any time and intervene in the skirmishes himself.
If there is only one commander facing you, then he will act in the same way. On the other hand, if you fight in 1vs7, you are dealing with seven autonomous players who have to act together as a team in order to defeat you.
Before each battle, both sides have 60 seconds to prepare their strategy and, if necessary, to plan routes or prepare orders. After that it gets serious and it becomes clear who the better commander is.
Of course, there are also various rewards to be won and missions to be completed for the event. There are four daily missions available to you in total – two for the commander role and two for the tanker side. The spoils of war include various camouflages, inscriptions, decals and five fully trained crew members with Brothers in Arms as a zero perk and a whole bunch of Crew XP.
