Lego will be releasing the classic Atari 2600 console as a model in August, just in time for Atari’s 50th anniversary. The Lego set will come in an authentic Atari look with a Lego joystick and cartridge and will even be playable.

The video game company Atari celebrates its 50th anniversary in August this year. To celebrate this birthday, Lego will release a playable model of the Atari 2600. Now the first information about the set and the market launch has become known.

As the Lego website Promo Bricks reports, the Lego Atari 2600 will look like the original console. The black console will also have the typical wooden panel as well as the sliders and the slot for the cartridge. The set not only includes the classic console, but also the typical Atari joystick made of Lego and the classic Pitfall! as a Lego cartridge. The Lego model is said to be roughly the same size as the original console.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Now with even more character figures

The really special thing about the Atari 2600 made of Lego is the playability of the model. However, this does not mean the full range of functions as a video game console, but a Lego recreation of a gameplay scene from Pitfall!. So you should be able to open the Lego console to make the scene visible. Here the Pittfall! hero hangs on a liana in the jungle and swings over a crocodile pit. The included Atari joystick should even be able to mechanically control the movement of the hero on the liana.

The Lego Atari 2600 will be available exclusively from Lego in August 2022. Promo Bricks speculates that the set will probably be available in free trade from January 2023. The model will probably cost $199.99 in the US, while it will probably be sold for €169.99 in Germany.
