The internal structure of the secondary battery system based on the silicon carbon/lithium metal anode is prone to change during the cycle, resulting in rapid capacity decay and shortened service life. This phenomenon is particularly evident in complex application environments (temperature changes, external stresses, etc.). Developing smart battery materials with adaptive capabilities is the key to solving this problem.
In response to the above problems, the team of Professor Song Jiangxuan from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University, starting from the design of battery materials, developed a series of battery materials with adaptive capabilities based on dynamic reversible chemical bonds and weak interactions to improve the structural stability and environmental adaptability of batteries. , which significantly improves the service life of the battery under harsh conditions, and provides a new idea for the development of a new generation of adaptive intelligent high specific energy lithium batteries.

Based on the in-situ chemical bonding strategy, the research group developed a smart solid-state electrolyte with both temperature and stress adaptive capabilities for high-energy lithium metal solid-state batteries. The constructed all-solid-state battery can achieve rapid self-healing (repair efficiency > 95%) under alternating temperature and stress failure conditions. The related research results were published in the journal “Energy Storage Materials” under the title “Application of Temperature/Stress Adaptive Solid-state Electrolyte in Long-Life Solid-State Lithium Metal Batteries”.
In addition, the research group developed an interface-adaptive binder for a new generation of high-capacity silicon-carbon anodes for lithium-ion batteries to solve the problem of rapid capacity decay caused by large volume deformation.
It is reported that the research work has been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key R&D Program of Shaanxi Province, the Special Fund for the Fundamental Research Funds of the Central Universities, and the Young Top-notch Talent Program of Xi’an Jiaotong University.
